Did Raiders Trade Future for Palmer?

This is definately worthy of a #pause

In light of the news of Carson Palmer’s trade to the Oakland Raiders, one would think the 4-2 Cincinnati Bengals have learned something from how the Philadelphia Eagles run their organization?  Instead of succumbing to Palmer’s demands to be traded, the Bengals obtained his rights by not forcing their hand.  Instead, Palmer said he would retire before he took another snap for the Bengals.  Bengals ownership told him to grab his fishing pole and enjoy life!

Well, as seen from past posts, we here at TheManCave06 have ripped both Palmer and the Bengals organization.  Now the Bengals will receive a 1st round pick in 2012 and a conditional 1st rounder in 2013 from Oakland in return for Palmer.  Can we say that the Bengals are winning in this deal?

The Bengals organization finds themselves in a great position, considering that they have found their QB of the future in Andy Dalton and have a good young receiver in AJ Green.

Trading Palmer this off-season would not have warranted 2 – #1’s (as seen by the Eagles who received 2nd round picks for McNabb and Kolb) but when teams get desperate as Oakland has with the injury to starter Jason Campbell for potentially the entire season, the pickings for a starting caliber QB are slim and comes at a high price.

With the trade, Oakland now only has a 5th and 6th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, but are betting on compensation picks for the lossing Nnamdi and Robert Gallery this in free-agency.  Let’s just hope that the Raiders are happy with what they have on the field now, because there won’t be much of an opportunity to improve in the upcoming draft.

Just heard this is not a done deal just yet. Palmer and Oakland working on restructuring Palmer’s deal to fit within the Raiders cap for the remaining 4 years of his current deal.

  2. DaDoc says:

I believe it’s a conditional 1st Round pick in 2013. Still a great deal for the Bengals!

  3. Richan says:

What will the Raiders do with Jason Campbell? He isnt good enough to be trade bait, so does he just get axed?

  4. LBC says:

I think Jason will just get axed, I mean he much better than a number 2, but at the same time I don’t see any teams that will desperately be in the QB market next off season.

    • RenzReport says:

Jason Campbell will be a free agent at the end of this season. A QB with his status will still warrant a job and a potential starting position. Teams will show interest and he will be on a NFL roster next year, competing for a #1 spot.

Quite possibly the greatest picture ever used in the ManCave…it should be a billboard in Times Square
